???? Last but not least, we just had to give a shout out to Jerry and Johanna of Hingham, MA for ignoring the rules completely and writing their own lyrics to the tune of “Bulbes”/”Nothing”. Thanks for making us laugh!

????????????

Congratulations to all the contestants! Your performances ranged from silly to serious, with choreography inspired by 21st century klezmer social media memes and 1960s nihilist folkies. You truly took the #BabkaChallenge by the horns. Win or lose, we salute you, and look forward to eating babka together in person someday very soon!

Love,
The Wheels

About Kenny & Ziggy’s Chocolate Babka

A delicious yeasted dough cake with a sweet chocolate filling marbled throughout, this is a deli classic done right.

Kenny & Ziggy’s is not only the top Jewish deli in Texas, but also one of the best delis in America. In the early 1900s, Max Gruber (Ziggy’s grandfather) left Budapest, Hungary, on a bicycle. He pedaled his way across Europe to the Atlantic coast and eventually sailed for the United States, ending up on New York’s Lower East Side. In 1927, he and his brothers-in-law Morris and Izzy Rappaport opened the first Jewish deli on Broadway! Two generations later, Houston businessman Lenny Friedman convinced third-generation deli man Ziggy Gruber that Houston needed an authentic Jewish deli of its own (Ziggy ran successful delis in New York and Los Angeles). The rest is delicious history.

About Zingerman’s Chocolate Raisin Babka

The master bakers at Zingerman’s Bakehouse have given babka a flavor update worthy of the new millennium. Rich with butter, swirling with chocolate and cinnamon, and studded with golden sultana raisins, our modern babka bursts with chocolatey sweetness. If you have memories of dry, lifeless babka from your childhood, forget ‘em.

“Bar none, Zingerman’s Bakehouse makes the BEST babka I have ever eaten!! It was incredible.”

Susana Trilling, author of the cookbook Seasons of My Heart

“In Ann Arbor, Michigan, the beloved deli and bakehouse Zingerman’s makes an updated take on classic babka. The layers consist of chocolate ganache, ground up chocolate brownie crumbs, and rum-soaked raisins, and the loaves are crowned with a crunchy, cinnamon-sugar crumb.”

Leah Koenig, Tablet Magazine

Located in Newton Centre, our sponsor, Rosenfeld’s Bagels, offers bagels, challah, hand-mixed cream cheese, rolls, pastries and more. Visit their website for more information.
