Fall News Update

The Wheels had been feeling energized having just returned from amazing experiences playing at the City Winery in NYC, in Caldwell, NJ and for a huge crowd at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline. Though, sitting around Nat’s parent’s kitchen table in Hingham, MA at the end of June, having just wrapped up our last of three recording sessions…things were looking a little bleak. The session had gone great and as our engineer, Ariel Bernstein packed up his portable recording studio, it was time for one of Ezekiel’s Wheels’ nose-to-the-grindstone, barefisted, go-for-broke scheduling sessions.

You see, summer is a time where the Wheels tend to roll off into different directions: a vacation here, a violin summit there, some Klez in Kanada, but this summer seemed more jam packed with non-EW summer fun than usual, and all at different times. After about an hour and a half of scheduling mayhem, we realized we would have little time together and would therefore have to make the time we DID have together that much more AWESOME!!

And oy did we!

We kicked off the summer with a rousing return to play for our friends at the Newbridge on the Charles retirement community in Dedham. Later, after a brief hiatus, we powered through a flash New England rainstorm to bring klezmer cheer to a Cantabrigian block party. We freylakh-ed the socks off two wonderfully receptive crowds at the Newton Free Library and Framingham Public Library. We also hope to have made some brides’ and grooms’ special day that much more memorable with such raucous horas that even the chairs from the chair dances were calling for a break.

But the fall is almost upon us and that means it’s time to get serious!  Well, not that serious, but serious enough that we’re hitting the ground running with a list of amazing dates that we want you, EW friend and fan, to be a part of!

The first of which (insert dramatic string tremolo here…we don’t have drums in our band to do a drum roll) is our ALBUM RELEASE CONCERT!

That’s right, our hot off the presses album, Transported, will be available for the first time in it’s entirety. We’ll be celebrating such an exciting occasion on September 24th at the Regattabar as part of their 1st Annual Regattabar Klezmer Festival!   We’ll have the honor of sharing the night with our friends the Klezwoods. The show starts at 7:30 and is guaranteed to be an amazing night.   Also, listen for us on WUMB radio and WERS’s show Chagigah the weekend prior. We’ll be playing some and talking about our release!

On October 8th, we’ll be heading down to New York City to play at the New York Klezmer Workshop. We’re excited to be leading the workshop prior to our performance and a jam session.  We’ll be talking about our music, arrangements and other fun stuff!

The next big date we have on the calendar is on Saturday, November 9th. We’ll make our sophomore appearance at the legendary Club Passim in Harvard Square, Cambridge. The last time we were there, we sold the place out and we’d love to do the same again!   It’ll be a matinee concert, starting at 3:30, so this one would be great for the whole family.

All in all, we love playing for you and if you haven’t seen us in a while, we’d love to see you again. Please join us at our album release concert or another upcoming concert, and don’t forget to say hi! We hope to see you soon!
